As of December 2, 2024, the government stopped issuance of current health insurance cards and officially started the use of “My Number” card as health insurance certificate. Please check the new procedure for enrolling new employee in the insurance association.

 

[1] Issuance of the current health insurance cards

Health insurance cards will no longer be issued after December 2, 2024, for employees newly enrolled in the insurance program or their dependent families. New card will not be issued even when employees’ names changed because of marriage or when they lost their insurance card.

Please note that the issuance date of health insurance card is different from the date of insurance registration of an employee or dependent family member.

 

[2] Procedure after December 2

After December 2, 2024, “the application form for the registration in health insurance and employees’ pension insurance” and “the application form for the (de)registration of dependent family members” will have a new column to check whether the issuance of “Eligibility Confirmation Letter” is required. 

When applying for registration or deregistration of employees who do not have their My Number card or have not registered their cards to use as a health insurance certificate (hereinafter, “people unable to use Myna health insurance card,”) it will become necessary to check whether they need the “Eligibility Confirmation Letter” and tick off the column if they do. By showing the “Eligibility Confirmation Letter” at hospitals or clinics, they can receive medical treatment covered by the insurance.

Even if the column is not ticked off, the “Eligibility Confirmation Card” will be issued for people unable to use Myna health insurance card, but the process is expected to take longer.

 

[3] Information needed for the procedure

When applying for insurance registration for employees or their dependent families, companies need to check if they can use their My Number card as health insurance certificate. When companies have new employees, it will be helpful to obtain the following information along with other necessary data.

1. Whether they have a My Number card

2. Whether they have registered My Number card as health insurance certificate

 

Since some people don’t know if their My Number card have been registered as health insurance certificate, please confirm at an early timing, rather than after they joined the company in order to file application without a delay.

Employees can check whether their My Number card is registered as health insurance certificate in the first page after logging in to Myna Portal. Details can also be found in the “health insurance certificate” page of the “certificate” area. If the card is registered as health insurance certificate, it will show the status as “Registered.” It may be helpful to provide such information to new employees.
