Health insurance and long-term care insurance premium rates of the Japan Health Insurance Association (Association Kenpo) are reviewed annually in March and applied to premiums paid in April. This article looks at the new premium rates from March 2025.
[1] FY2025 health insurance premium rates
Association Kenpo sets the premium rate for each prefectural division. Among the 47 prefectures, 28 saw the rate lowered from the previous year, while the rate has been raised for 18 prefectures and the rate for one prefecture remains unchanged. There is a wide difference in premium rates between regions. The rate for Saga prefecture is the highest at 10.78% and that of Okinawa is the lowest at 9.44%.
[2] Long-term care insurance premium rates
The long-term care insurance premium rates are also reviewed annually to ensure a healthy single-year account balance. The rate has been reduced from 1.60% to 1.59% for the year starting March 2025.
Please check the premium rates applied to your prefecture in the Association Kenpo’s website. Since the rates are changed in March, companies providing bonuses in March need to use the new rates in calculating deductions from the bonuses.
