Labor insurance annual renewal

The annual renewal of labor insurance is the procedure of finalizing labor insurance premiums. Companies are required to calculate a final premium for the past fiscal year and estimated amount for the current fiscal year and pay the premiums. This year, the renewal procedure must be done during the period from June 1 to July 10. This article explains key points.

[1] Submitting of a declaration form

Every year, companies receive the declaration form from the government around the end of May to the beginning of July. (*)

Companies with a capital exceeding 100 million yen will receive a notice explaining the electronic declaration procedure, instead of a paper form, from fiscal 2026, since electronic declaration is mandatory. Unlike the paper form, which has been sent in a green or blue A4 envelope, the notice will come in a standard size postal envelope.

At present, not many companies are required to conduct labor insurance renewal electronically, but electronic procedure is expected to become mandatory in various applications. Please note that smaller companies may also conduct the renewal procedure electronically, if preferred.

[2] Changes in labor insurance premiums

Final and estimated insurance premiums must be calculated by using correct premium rates. Below are notes about the rates for this fiscal year;

Industrial accident compensation insurance premium rate: Unchanged since April 1, 2024
General contribution rate: Unchanged since fiscal 2018
Employment insurance rate: Revised as of April 1, 2026
Please check the insurance rates, particularly when calculating the employment insurance premium.

[3] Payment through bank account transfer

Companies can pay premiums through bank transfer by applying in advance. The application deadline for the payment of FY2026 first period has already passed, but the application for the second period is available until August 14. As shown below, companies can have extra time by choosing bank transfer, since the transaction dates are later than the deadlines of other payment methods.

Deadline(FY2026) First period Second period Third period Fourth period
Bank transfer date Sep 7 Nov 16 Feb 15 Mar 31
Deadline for other payment methods Jul 10 Nov 2 Feb 1 Mar 31

As part of the effort to improve the convenience of renewal procedure, an internet-only bank, GMO Aozora Net Bank has been added to the list of financial institutions available for bank account transfer from fiscal 2025.
